Jacksonville Body Lift – Jacksonville Male Body Lift
Who Needs a Body Lift?
Anyone having had a major weight loss as a result of dieting and exercising or as a result of an operation such as a gastric bypass or a gastric stapling.
Why?
Because after a major weight loss, the skin that had been stretched by the excess fat is now so loose that it will never retract on its own to a proper size.
Usually people who have lost a lot of weight have their skin sagging at many levels: face, arms, chest, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. Often they mostly complain about their abdominal skin, loose buttocks and thigh skin, and many folds and wrinkles.
What Does a Body Lift Do?
Body lift plastic surgery basically does what a tailor would do by tightening clothes, discarding the excess tissue, and sewing back what is left to fit the body properly. The tightening in a body lift requires vertical tightening by pulling the skin of the thighs and buttocks up and the skin from the abdomen and back down with discarding of the excess skin in between – this involves a circumferential incision all around the waist. If the inner thigh skin is also very loose it needs to be tightened up by removing the excess skin just below the groin area. The scars for an inner thigh lift lay in the crease of the groin and are well hidden. The abdominal skin tightening is similar to a tummy tuck and tightening of the abdominal muscles as well. A horizontal tightening may be necessary if the circumference of the waist was so large before the weight loss that it would leave a lot of excess skin at the waist level even after a vertical tightening. This is done by removing skin from the front of the abdomen and suturing. This leaves a vertical, mid-line, abdominal scar that can be fairly discrete when painstakingly closed with fine superficial sutures and has the advantage of getting rid of the abdominal midline scar left by any former surgery such as a gastric stapling or bypass, which often are quite unsightly.
The chest may need improvement as well with either skin tightening only (also called gynecomastia correction or male breast reduction).
The skin from the arms may need tightening through an inner arm incision (brachioplasty).
Finally, the face might require skin tightening as well (but not always, especially in younger patients) which is achieved by doing a facelift or neck lift.
